Opossum siting...my first.

As I was leaving work yesterday in a snow squall I saw what at first I thought was a cat. I slowed as so not to frighten it and to my surprise it was an opossum making its way along the road. He kept on moving along and I put the car in reverse so I might snap a shot or two. He wasn't too concern with me but seemed to be on a bee-line to somewhere.

I did a bit of research and found they are North America's only marsupial (female has a pouch) mammal. And they eat anything, "natures little sanitation engineers".

I've been meaning to stop and capture some of the wonderfully odd, yet beautiful pieces of art that I pass in my wanderings.

I still can't believe it

Fireplace during construction,
before insulation, lighting and wallboard.
Now in working order.

I am so thankful every day that we were able to pull off buying and renovating an older house and selling the one we were in. There were times when it seemed like it might not happen. We still have work to do here. Take the mantel piece, I'm thinking Vermont Soapstone. Black with a touch that is smooth and somehow soft. For now the pine 1 x 4 is in place until we scavenge the right piece.

January is here.

"January opens
The box of the year
And brings out days
That are bright and clear
And brings out days
That are cold and grey
And shouts, "Come see
What I brought today!"
- Leland B. Jacobs, January
