Bits of the the garden

How the garden grew!

New Tomato patch in the front yard.
Cucs and Zucs with herbs and flowers.

With warm weather and humidity and a little water sprinkled in, the plants grew quick!

Just a few days away can do wonders!

As we were nearing the end of the house move and closing I got this need to get-away.
At the last minute we decided to have Thanksgiving in Key West. I'd never been there and it was perfect. Yes, there was Turkey but we didn't have to cook it and it had a Cuban flair.
We stayed at Duval House. It was wonderful! Quiet, yet right in the middle of everything. We couldn't have asked for more on a spur of the moment vacation.

In a funk....

This is it. This is all I took a picture of.
Nothing is grabbing my attention.
And I am refusing to submit to taking pictures of colored leaves.
Did summer cheat us of a month or two this year?
I just need a couple more warm days.
This week has been cool and partly cloudy.
Hopefully I'll SNAP OUT OF IT !

Blackberry Pick'n

The ever-present "yard boss".

The blackberries are ripening nicely with the warm weather we've had.
I made a custard with some of the berries and froze some for use in smoothies.

Beach : Part 2

It was low tide at 5:40pm.
The gulls were very busy "clamming".

The water was warm and oh so relaxing.

Day Trip to Crane Beach : Ipswich Massachusetts

We arrived at the reserve at about 3:30 so it only cost $7.50 instead of $15 to enter.
There are mile of trails to hike.
The dunes were wonderful and only the sounds were of what looked to be swallows swooping overhead.
Yes, Bank Swallows; they dig into the side sand dunes to nest.
The trails lead in and out of wooded areas and eventually down to the ocean.

I spotted this fellow on the wire.
To our amazement he didn't fly...didn't flinch.

We guessed he was people watching.
(Birder pay-back?)

I'll leave you here and show you the beach tomorrow.

Quite Morning Moments

There is something special about being in the garden in the morning alone. I try to take it all in and preserve the memory. The sun is coming up, the breeze is blowing gently and the birds are twittering and flying about. The smell of the warm earth is like none other.

Road Trip to Hancock NH

At Davis Brook Farm : Acres of Day Lilies
Our second trip there and we took my mom along this time.

This variety is Blonde is Beautiful, my husband's baby.
We bought her 2 years ago and it's so impressive.

We ended up purchasing 9 more varieties.
2 whites, 1 raspberry, 1 called Matt, 1 green eyes open, 2 mysteries.

This is a huge wrecking ball at another garden center. She has flowers and he loves to weld and has made a huge castle and all sorts of interesting "toys".

Bog Trot in June

Out on the boardwalk for another peek at what is blooming in the bog. The boards move a bit as you walk. You hear squish and gurgle with each new step. Where the boards have sunk into the peat you might even get your feet wet.
Stay on the path or you could sink out of sight.
Bunchberry, part of the Dogwood Family
also known as Ground Dogberry.

Sheep Laurel: poisonous to live stock.
I couldn't figure out what these tiny blooms were.
At first I didn't even see them.
It was a warm and muggy day. Sparrows and chickadees where singing in the trees. I was startled twice by frogs and birds when I disturbed their quite spot. A great lunch time trot.
